Hi everyone. Jonathan here from Mifa, and today we’re talking about everyone’s favorite topic, scholarships. Most people have heard of scholarships. They’re a type of financial aid that unlike loans, do not have to be repaid. So how do you find them? Many scholarships come from colleges and universities.

Oftentimes, all you have to do is fill out the forms that are normally required during the admissions and financial aid process, but sometimes you’ll have to specifically apply for a college’s scholarship with a separate application for scholarships outside of college. We recommend looking at two different levels.

Local and national. Many local scholarships are offered by small businesses or organizations like the Elks. It’s a good idea to check with your high school guidance counselors as they will have the best information on those types of scholarships. The benefit of local scholarships is that unlike national scholarships, the pool of applicants will be much smaller for scholarships from national organizations like large businesses or nonprofit.

You can use an online scholarship search engine. Remember, you should never have to pay for this online service. There are plenty of reputable free ones to search like bold.org and fastweb.com. You create a student profile based on your information and you’ll be matched with scholarships for which you may qualify.

Mifa Pathway also offers a free scholarship search for students. Also, scholarship organizations often contact Mifa to promote their scholarship. Which we then share in our articles and social media. So don’t forget to follow us on social media to find scholarship opportunities. And if you have any questions, call us at eight hundred four four nine mefa or email us at college [email protected].
