The MEFA Gift of Independence Card provides friends and family members a tangible way to contribute toward an individual’s savings in an Attainable® Savings Plan account. Where to Purchase

Friends and family members can purchase the MEFA Gift of Independence Card online at mefa.org/giftcard. To purchase, select the e-gift card image that lists “Gift of Independence” and fill out all applicable fields, including the name and email address for the recipient of the gift. Include a message and your preferred delivery date, and then determine your e-gift card purchase amount, which can range from $25 to $200.

The gift recipient will receive an email with the MEFA Gift of Independence Card and instructions for how to redeem their gift. Once an individual has an Attainable® account, the steps to redeem the gifted funds are outlined below.

If You Don’t Yet Have an Attainable® Account

You can easily set up an Attainable® account. Click the orange button below, and you’ll be brought to the webpage of Fidelity Investments, the program manager for Attainable®. Return to this Give the Gift of Independence page once you’ve opened your Attainable® account. Please note that Attainable® accounts must meet certain eligibility requirements, as outlined on Fidelity’s webpage.

If You Already Have an Attainable® Account

1. Go to GiftofCollege.com/Register and create a profile.
2. Within your profile select Manage Profile, and then select Connect Your 529 or ABLE Account.
3. Select Attainable® Savings Plan from the drop-down menu.
4. Enter the name of the Attainable® account owner, account number, and name of the beneficiary.
5. Select the My Profile tab. In the My Plan section, select the beneficiary’s name and then click Redeem Gift Card. In the Gift Method drop-down menu select Gift of College Gift Card and enter in the gift card number and four-digit pin. Click Submit.
6. Your gift card funds will be sent to your Attainable® account within 14 business days.

The purchaser of the MEFA Gift of Independence Card pays a fee at checkout, determined by the amount of the e-gift card purchased, to cover distribution and processing costs. The e-gift card recipient receives the full face value of the card and pays no additional fees. The fee structure is as follows:

Can I deposit a MEFA Gift of College Card into an Attainable® Savings Plan account?

Yes, you may redeem a MEFA Gift of College Card for any of the programs listed on the Gift of College website, including the Attainable® Savings Plan.
