Hi everyone. Jonathan here from MEFA, and today I’m going to talk about giving the lasting gift of savings, which can be a great option for holidays, birthdays, or any other milestones. If you have a loved one saving for college, career training, or disability related expenses, you can help. When you contribute towards another person’s savings, you’re helping someone you care about stay on track toward their financial goals.

If you know how your loved one is saving, it’s easy to find the best way to contribute, but even if you don’t, there are still opportunities to give the gift of savings. Those saving in the U.Fund, the Massachusetts 529 College Savings Plan, can set up a personalized digital gifting page on fidelity.com that allows friends and family to contribute directly to their college savings account.

If you don’t have access to your loved one’s gifting page, you can still give the gift of savings with a gift card. MEFA Gift of College cards are [00:01:00] available at Cumberland Farms, Stop & Shop, and CVS locations across Massachusetts, as well as online at mefa.org/giftcard. These cards could be redeemed toward a U.Fund, U.Plan, or Attainable® account, or even apply to a student loan balance.

And for those savings specifically with an Attainable® account, you can choose a MEFA Gift of Independence Card available online at mefa.org/giftcard.

Individuals may have also created a member profile at giftofcollege.com. By setting up this profile, friends and family have another option to contribute directly toward a loved one’s future savings goals, and you can even search for someone’s member profile on the Gift of College website to find their page.

If you have any questions about giving the gift of savings, reach out to us at (800) 449-MEFA or at [email protected].
