Spend 529 Day with Us

Got plans to send a child to college one day? If so, we invite you to celebrate 529 Day, an opportunity to commemorate the importance and benefit of saving for college with 529 college savings plan. 529 plans offer powerful benefits unlike many other savings accounts:

  • Earnings and withdrawals are free from federal and state income tax when used to pay for college

  • Savings can be used at practically any college or university in the U.S.

  • Owners decide how to invest and when to withdraw their savings

To help provide families with guidance and information about saving for college, we’re hosting a range of online and in-person events to celebrate 529 Day. Though 529 Day is usually held on May 29th, due to the weekend we'll be marking the occasion for most events on Thursday, May 26th. Join us for any of the following:

  • Come see us. We’re hosting an Open House at our office on the 4th floor of 160 Federal Street in downtown Boston from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 26th. You’ll have the opportunity to sit down one on one with a college planning expert and ask your questions and learn how easy it is to get started saving for college.

  • Watch a presentation. Attend our in-office seminar at 12:00 p.m. on May 26th to receive a full overview of college savings, including how to get started, different savings options, and strategies to make saving for college a consistent priority. No need to RSVP.

  • Attend our webinar. For those who can’t make it into our office we’re offering a virtual presentation on all things college savings. You’ll hear from an expert on the ins and outs of college savings plans, and have a chance to ask your questions in real time. Register here.

  • Join us in the community. We'll be hosting a Start U.Reading event at the main branch of the Worcester Public Library at 10:3o a.m. on May 31st. Bring your preschooler for story time and to meet a popular book character.

  • Follow us on social media. We’ll have a full presence on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn surrounding 529 Day, offering tips on saving for college and resources to help you stay on track.

We look forward to celebrating with you. If you have any questions about 529 Day, or about saving for college in general, reach out to us at (800) 449-MEFA (6332) or info@mefa.org.
