Financial Aid

The Facts on the CSS ProfileTM

Is the CSS Profile on your mind? The Profile is a financial aid application required by over 250 colleges, universities, and scholarship programs, so if you have a child applying to college, there’s a good chance you’ll need to complete it. Like the FAFSA®, the Profile asks questions about family income, assets, and household members. It requires more details than the FAFSA, and has its own registration process. Keep in mind that if you're required to submit the Profile to a college or university, you will also need to submit the FAFSA to that school. The FAFSA is a requirement for every school in the nation.

If you’re new to the Profile, view our slides below. We go into detail about completing the application, how colleges use the information, and resources to help you through the process. Navigating the presentation is easy — simply use the left and right arrows at the bottom of the slides to get through the content. If you’d like to see it big screen, use the 2-way diagonal arrows to view the presentation in full-screen mode, then navigate the presentation by using the arrows on your keyboard. If you would like to hear a MEFA college planning expert talk through these slides, you can view our Profile webinar at any time.

Remember that financial aid deadlines are incredibly important, so make sure you check not only which schools require the Profile, but when to submit it. Getting your financial aid applications in on time can assure that you’ll be considered for the most financial aid possible.
