A focus on our borrowers: MEFA’s transition to a new loan servicing provider

We chose American Education Services (AES) based on its experience in the industry, its capability in servicing a loan portfolio of our size, and its investment in technology to better enable borrowers to manage their accounts.
Since its founding by the Massachusetts Legislature in 1982, MEFA has held one sole, important mission: to help the students and families of Massachusetts access higher education and reach financial goals through transparent, responsive, and first-class customer service. As we transition this month to a new loan servicing provider, American Education Services (AES), that mission remains our core focus.

In selecting a new provider to service our loans, we quickly recognized AES as a national leader in providing quality customer service to millions of student loan borrowers. We ultimately chose AES based on its experience in the industry, its capability in servicing a loan portfolio of our size, and its investment in technology to better enable borrowers to manage their accounts. We wanted to make certain that MEFA Loan borrowers would benefit from a technologically-advanced and streamlined experience as they repaid their loans, and we’re confident that AES can deliver on those expectations.

Though we’re transitioning to a new loan servicing provider, it’s important for our borrowers to understand that no MEFA Loans have been sold, and MEFA continues in its role as the loan lender.

We are working diligently with AES to ensure a smooth transition. If you’re a MEFA Loan borrower, you will receive a welcome communication from AES once this loan transfer is complete. In the meantime, we encourage you to visit our dedicated webpage to learn more about this process and to review our FAQs. As always, we welcome your comments and feedback, and remain available to assist you during this important transition.
