As a not-for-profit state authority, MEFA takes an active role in giving back to the community, with a variety of initiatives to promote college access and raise awareness about the importance of early college planning. See what we’re doing in your neighborhood.

Start U.Reading
MEFA supports literacy events to get kids reading and help parents make reading an integral part of their children's education. Start U.Reading — a series of literacy events where local celebrities team with favorite children's characters like Buzz Lightyear and Clifford the Big Red Dog to encourage kids to read — are held at public libraries across Massachusetts.
College Savings Art Competition
Each year, MEFA sponsors an art competition for third, fourth, and fifth graders who create artwork based on the theme "What do I want to be when I graduate from college?" Winners receive money in a U.Fund college savings account.
